ANGLIAN LEAGUE QUALIFIER WON BY CAMBRIDGESHIRE.

Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk met for the Anglian League Qualifier at Ely GC on Wednesday 7th August. The morning foursomes started very early with the first tee just after 7.30 leaving some of us sleep walking.

The foursomes did put the writing on the wall as Cambridgeshire played extremely well with a 7 – 1 lead over both rivals at lunch. Norfolk held a slender 5 – 3 lead over Suffolk.

The eight singles in the afternoon were most competitive especially on the front nine with rumours of an impossible turnaround circulating. Cambridgeshire were unfortunate to lose a player to injury meaning an early couple of points going to Norfolk and Suffolk. However the back nine sorted it all out and Cambridgeshire were resounding winners. A special mention to Patrick Coffey who shrugged off jet lag to play and gained 5 points and George Swallow who gained 7. Despite other encouraging performances it didn’t go Suffolk’s way.

The final scoring was Cambridgeshire 39, Suffolk 17, Norfolk 16. It is Cambridgeshire that goes forward to the final at Halesworth on the 18th August.

The team of (back row from left) George Swallow, Bailee Taylor, Louie Bayfield, Jamie Lee, (Front) Henry Ridgeon, Rufus Thubron, Kane Russell and Patrick Coffey are pictured after the presentations.
