Junior Team Championship

Championship format

The Junior Team Championship is open to all clubs affiliated to the Suffolk Golf Union. Teams are made up of 3 players (any gender) who must be under 18 years of age as at 1st January in the year the competition is played.  

Players are only eligible to represent their home club.

Competition is played on a knockout basis – 18 holes individual stableford with the team achieving the highest aggregate score for all 3 players progressing to the next round.

As usual, Organisers are kindly requested to communicate with your opposite numbers at the club to which you are drawn and arrange the match in good time.

The semi final and final matches will be played on neutral courses, details will be advised accordingly nearer the time.

2025 COMPETITION RULES

 

    1. The competition will be known as the Suffolk Junior Team Championship.

    1. Entry will be open to Junior members, either gender, of clubs affiliated to the SGU.

    1. Players must be under 18 years old on the 1st January of the year of competition.

    1. A player is only eligible to represent his/her home club.

    1. To be eligible, a player must have submitted 5 cards in competition play (not general play) in the twelve months period leading up to the date of the match being played.

    1. The competition will be played on a knockout basis with a draw made to determine matches.

    1. Match rules; Teams to consist of 3 players. Maximum handicap Index for Boys 24.4 Girls 36.4 Only one team per club may enter. Format; 18 holes stableford. The “normal competition tees” for Boys or Girls. One player from each participating team in each group Teams to play in handicap order- lowest first. Full course playing handicaps to apply. All 3 stableford scores to count -the team with the highest aggregate being the winners. In the event of a tie, aggregate scores will be decided over the last 9,6,3,1 holes.

    1. All rounds to be counted as “qualifying rounds” for WHS handicaps, which should be input at the time of the match.

    1. As far as possible matches should be arranged by mutual agreement. However, the club drawn at home must offer 3 alternative dates within 14 days of the draw. Dates by which each round must be completed will be advised by the SGU. Results to be notified to the SGU Junior Secretary within 3 days of completion of the match. Clubs risk disqualification if matches are not completed by the date notified by the SGU. The SGU Junior Secretary, Junior Chairman and the SGU Secretary will review all such cases and decide the outcome. Their decision shall be final.

    1. Caddies are not permitted.

    1. Team Officials cannot give advice and spectators are asked to ensure that players are given space to concentrate on their game and avoid any inference that advice has been given.

The Semi Finals and Final will be played at neutral venues arranged by the SGU. The Final will be played on the course of the previous year’s winner unless their team is again in the final or the SGU decide otherwise.

The winner of the Suffolk Junior Team Championship will be eligible to represent Suffolk at the English Junior Champion Club Tournament, held in August each year. Details will be advised to the winners by the SGU Junior Secretary.
