WIND DEFEATS U16S AT SHERINGHAM

WIND DEFEATS U16S AT SHERINGHAM

The under 16s made the long trip to Sheringham on 3rd August. There was a need to build on the good result of the previous round and spirits were high in the coach.

We met the local pro who mentioned that it was a great day for golf with no wind and only a small worry regarding lightning around 4pm.

Imagine our surprise that come 1.30 and the first tee it was raining and we were playing into a 3 or 4 club wind. Managers Jim and Paddy spent the first couple of hours looking for balls that were being blown everywhere but did remark it would be easier with a back wind later. Not so, after 9 holes the wind dropped it warmed up and it was a “normal” day again.

Enough of the weather report and so to the golf. It is fair to say the other teams handled the weather better than we did. The scores were perhaps a little disappointing but many were close matches that just went the wrong way for us. The final scores were Norfolk 3 – Essex 5. Norfolk 6 – Suffolk 2. Essex 7.5 Suffolk 0.5. Essex win the league with one round to go at Crondon Park (Essex) on the 11th August.
