Anglian League Match-day 5

Suffolk’s final mens fixture this year took the first team to Kingsthorpe Golf Club in Northamptonshire whilst Northamptonshire seconds came to Diss Golf Club.

It was a tough day for the first team on a tricky course and they found themselves trailing 3-1 at lunch, only Jimmy Price and Taylor Crisp managed to notch in the morning with a well fought 1 up win.

The afternoon was improved, Jack Cardy out first and Ben Sayers playing second. Both won 4&3 with impressive performances but unfortunately the tone wasn’t matched behind. Jimmy Price added another half point and Alex Mair in his second match again showed his worth with a win but it wasn’t enough as Suffolk went down 7.5-4.5.

Back at Diss, the second team got off to a start as good as the first teams was bad. Russell Oakey & Dan Hedges, James Tyler & Mark Fosker and Chris Bartrum & Connor Talbot were all pairings winning their morning foursomes to help their team be 3-1 up at lunch.

Needing 3.5 points from the singles it was a shaky start as Oakey, Tyler and Fosker were all beaten by the Northamptonshire top 3.  Nerves were settled though as Hedges, Sheldrake and Bartrum found comfortable victories in their games. Marc Duszynski was the last man out needing just half a point, he made sure of victory winning his match on the last hole and providing Suffolk a little bit of momentum as they now prepare for a new season.
