Suffolk Seniors 8th at Heythrop PARK

Suffolk Seniors traveled to Heythrop Park Golf Club to compete against 10 other Counties in the England Golf South East Group qualifier for the right to compete in the County Finals which will be held at Torquay Golf Club in October.

Heythrop Park, a Warner Hotels venue set in 440 acres in the Cotswolds is mostly tree lined with considerable walking between greens and the next tee which made life difficult for all players with temperatures approaching 30 degrees on both days of competition.

After day one Suffolk sat in 7th place- scores as follows- Graham Sykes (Bury St Edmunds) 77, James O’Doherty (Stowmarket) 77, John Newsome (Stowmarket) 75, Angus Rust (Flempton) 82. Gary Seaman (Woodbridge) 86 and Simon Goldsmith (Rookery Park) 80

Suffolk were competing against some extremely strong Counties .On day two Sykes added a 78, O’Doherty 75, Newsome 76, Rust 89, Seaman 85 and Goldsmith 80 leaving them in a creditable 8th place on a total of 785. The winning team was the home County BB & O on 760.

The individual winner was Danny Holmes (Kent) with 73-71- 144

Well done to all who played in extremely difficult conditions and, in particular to Gary Seaman who altered his travel plans to stand in for Steve Duffety who unfortunately had to withdraw at the last minute through medical issues.
