HAMBRO AND TOLLY FINALISTS

The Hambro cup semi final, played at Rushmere GC between Bury St Edmunds and Felixstowe Ferry ended in a comfortable win for Bury St Edmunds by 19 holes. Meanwhile Bungay & Waveney Valley and Rushmere were playing out a thriller at Thorpeness. At lunch time Rushmere held sway with a 3 hole lead going into the afternoon. The first two matches in the afternoon went the way of Bungay (+8). The last two matches went the way of Rushmere with both winning by 2 holes leaving Bungay & Waveney Valley winners by one hole.
The final will be held at Diss Golf Club (9.30am tee off) Sunday 18th August.

Meanwhile the Tolly Cobbold cup had reached the same stage. At Stowmarket Fynn Valley overcame Haverhill by 17 holes as they eased their way into the final; At Felixstowe Ferry the other semi final delivered a cliff hanger between Thorpeness and Rushmere. With the last pair on the course Thorpeness needed to win the last hole to force a play off. A par was achieved by them which Rushmere did not match so a play off was called for. Both the first and second holes were halved in nerve tangling fashion. The third play off hole saw Thorpeness hole a putt from I am told 4 feet or so and unlucky Rushmere missed a similar length putt sending Thorpeness into the final.
The final will be held at Rookery Park Golf Club (9,30am tee off) Sunday 18 August.
