SO NEAR BUT YET ……

After very close matches in the first round Suffolk travelled to Royal Norwich on Saturday full of hope and expectations.

Opponents Norfolk and Hertfordshire had intimated that there clashes making team selection an issue though both seemed equally strong on looking at handicaps. Indeed Hertfordshire were 21.4 shots better off.

After 9 holes managers Jim Harrison and Paddy Lockwood had to use all available fingers and toes but felt that we were in a good position. As the matches started to finish it became clear that all matches were very close. Jacob Severn and Finlay Edwards both won 2 points well done to them. In 4 matches we went up the 18th only to lose the hole and that transpired to cost dearly.

Once the results had been checked and double checked the results were Suffolk 3.5 Norfolk 4.5, Suffolk 3.5 Hertfordshire 4.5, Norfolk 4 Hertfordshire 4. Jim Harrison said that after a promising campaign it means that Suffolk cannot win the league and I am bitterly disappointed.

Hertfordshire hold the upper hand for the last round on Sunday when the rivalry resumes at Welwyn Garden City.
