It was finals day for the Race to Aldeburgh. All those that had earned their place here, now got to battle it out for the respective top spots on Aldeburgh’s fantastic new layout.
Simon Bearman went into the final as the Senior OOM leader, Patrick Coffey the Junior leader and Taylor Crisp the Handicap leader. The main Race to Aldeburgh leader was Sam Renville. With many points still available from this tournament Sam would be watching his back with players like Chris Bartrum, Ben Sayers, Taylor Crisp, Connor Talbot and Josh Robertson all in the hunt.
In the Seniors category, Tony Mardon carded a brilliant 74 which helped his points tally but Simon Bearman’s 77 was solid and gave him the points he needed to secure top spot for the second year in a row.
Patrick Coffey finished his season in the same manor that he had played most of it, a fine 72 and a tie for second place on the day meant slim chances of him being caught in the Junior OOM had vanished.
Taylor Crisp didn’t have his strongest finish on the final day of the season but still hung onto the Handicap OOM prize. Given Taylors handicap hasn’t been higher than scratch all season this is quite the achievement.
The new Aldeburgh layout was causing issues for many and it started to look like Renville could be caught. Ben Sayers joining Patrick Coffey on 72 pushed him into the running but coming from nowhere was Dominic Rudd. Rudd scored a quite excellent level par on a really tough day and quite deservedly took the scratch prize on the day. Not only did that par 70 win Dominic the day but once the calculations were done meant he also win the OOM and this years Race to Aldeburgh. Congratulations Dominic.
