HARVEY WINS RACE TO ALDEBURGH

The final County event of the year, The Race to Aldeburgh, was held at Aldeburgh Golf Club on Sunday 22nd October. 

16 players took part in the Scratch event which saw home player, Reuben Harvey, win the day’s competition with a level par round of 68 from another junior and also a home player, Harry Brinded who returned a 1 over par round of 69. Chris Bartrum, Diss, finished 3rd after carding a 74.

Harvey also won the Dick Berendt Salver (Suffolk Scratch Order of Merit) with 590 points from Bartrum on 490 and Ben Aves (Bury St Edmunds) 355

Four players contested the Handicap Order of Merit Final with Steven Matthews, 7 handicap from Woodbridge winning on the day with 78 nett 71 from Trevor Hellyer -5 handicap- Hintlesham who carded 80 nett 75.. Andy Coleman 9 handicap from Rookery Park finished 3rd with 90 nett 81.

Matthews took the Handicap Order of Merit on 50 points from Hellyer 39 and Coleman 35. Sid Neenan had accrued 44 points prior to the finals, however, having turned professional he was ineligible..

Not surprisingly the Junior Order of Merit, David Houston Salver, went to Harvey with 880 points from Brinded on 585 and Patrick Coffey, Woodbridge, on 480.

The Seniors Order of Merit title was retained by Simon Goldsmith, Rookery Park, on 795 from Paul Buckle, Aldeburgh 420 and Simon Bearman, Hintlesham, 300

7 players took part in the finals of the SGU Sponsored Medal, having qualified from heats held at their respective clubs. Their competition was played from the yellow tees on a stableford format with Edward Moore, 13 handicap from The Suffolk, the winner with 35 points from Leigh Meadows, 9 handicap from Fynn Valley on 33 and Sam Taylor 10 handicap Ufford Park,on 28 points
