Under 18’s at John O’Gaunt GC
After the celebrations for the Kings coronation yesterday and another soaking Suffolk u18 splashed their way to John O’Gaunt Golf Club for a match against Bedfordshire and Norfolk.
Strangely the sun shone and at one point it could even of been described as hot. The course was green and lush but showed signs of the recent wet weather with some puddles in evidence. Following on from our recent visit there the team settled into the match quickly with all getting away from the tricky first tee well.
As has been the case in recent times Suffolk and Bedfordshire were locked in a battle for honours however Norfolk were defeated by 8 – 0 as all the team managed a victory with varying degrees of difficulty. Harry Brinded, Dominic Rudd and Fraser Johnson all recorded wins, captain Rueben Harvey a half and thankfully Liam Buggs pulled out a magnificent 185 yd shot to a foot or so to win the hole and a half for the team. That left Ben Mason with 2 holes to play and all square. The Bedfordshire player, a member at John O’Gaunt hit a towering second shot on to the par 5 17th green and despite Ben’ par went to the 18th Tee one up. In the end the 18th was halved in 5 to see the result 4 – 4.
Many thanks to John O’Gaunt Golf Club for the use of the course, excellent staff and food and which produced an enjoyable day for all player’s.
