Under 14 friendly against Norfolk is won by the visitors

This annual fixture was hosted by Gorleston on a day of atrocious conditions. The morning foursomes saw Norfolk make good use of their 27 shots in building a 2.5 to 1.5 advantage.

After an excellent lunch it was found that the very windy conditions had worsened with the arrival of driving rain and stronger winds. Not only that it was discovered that all Suffolk players were giving shots and they totalled 51 so a tough afternoon was ahead. As the conditions worsened yet more the decision was made to make the singles a 9 hole event only and Norfolk were ahead by 7 – 1 by this time so ran out 9.5 – 2.5 winners.

Junior secretary, Mike Olding, presented Norfolk with a trophy in recognition of their victory and this will be played for on an annual basis. Mike, assisted on the day by Charlie Sadler, said that they were absolutely soaked and the joint decision had been necessary in everyone’s interests. He continued that we couldn’t thank Gorleston enough for their hospitality and welcome.

We look forward to the renewal next year when Norfolk will host us.
