U16s LOSE TO HERTS AND NORFOLK

The U16s travelled to Welwyn Garden City on Sunday for the last round of the league campaign. On a tight course which most had not seen before this presented many challenges. Manager Jim Harrison said that he was hopeful for a good display after an improved result at Royal Norwich last week.

After a hot afternoons work Herts beat Suffolk 6-2 and Norfolk beat Suffolk 5.5-2.5. (Herts and Norfolk drew 4-4). There were one or two pleasing performances with Oliver Jones winning both his matches. That meant that the strong Hertfordshire side were league winners with 10 points, Norfolk second with 7 and Suffolk third with 1.

Reflecting on the season Jim Harrison said that the statistics slightly hid the closeness of each match and that it was the loss of vital closing holes that had contributed to many close defeats. There is still the Tom Finn against Cambridgeshire and Leicestershire and Rutland on the 7th September for the team to collect some silverware this year.
