U16S AT THE BAGSHAW AND SKEVINGTON TROPHY

U16S AT THE BAGSHAW AND SKEVINGTON TROPHY

Monday saw the 27 hole tournament between the 4 Counites hosted by Suffolk at Newton Green Golf Club.

The Suffolk team was Henry Ridgeon, Rufus Thubron, George Mclellan, Scott Carr, James Sadler, Jack Sparrow, George Swallow (capt), Josh Emery and Charlie Langdon who were pictured before the morning round started.

Chairman of Suffolk Junior Golf, Trevor Mason, acted as starter for he first 9 holes that were played in the morning. The unique scoring system for this event meant lunchtime arrived with no real idea as the likely outcome as the winner is found by adding together the 3 best gross scores after 27 holes and then the best 3 nett scores from the remaining 5 players.

The afternoon saw 18 further holes played with Suffolk Golf Union President Charlie Wilderspin starter. The Newton Green course was providing a good test and with the wind getting up scoring was not easy at all. After all players had completed their round and the scores submitted out came the spreasheet to determine the winners.

So to the result of the tournament. There were 4 players on 111 (+6). Essex’s Haydn Norman and Oliver McEvoy together with Liam Caffyn however the winner on countback was Theo Pudney also from Norfolk. The nett winner on 104 was Edward Luther also from Norfolk.

Winners were Norfolk with 663, Bedforshire were second on 686 narrowly pipping Essex who were third on 687, Suffolk were on 704.
