U14s just miss out on the final this year.

So to the final match of the season. After last years visit to the final the players were keen on repeating this in 2025 so as Suffolk junior golf chair Trevor Mason explained it was simple in that before the day, Bedfordshire had played all their matches and had 8 points, Suffolk and Norfolk both had 5 points and Middlesex had none. Suffolk and Norfolk had both won more games within their matches than Bedfordshire and, with 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw, Suffolk and Norfolk both needed at least a win and a draw for one of them to overtake Bedfordshire and qualify for the regional final.

Team is shown prior to the match with coach Charlie Sadler.

After a very closely fought encounter nothing could separate the teams as Trevor states that it was not to be as all three games finished 4 – 4 giving all three counties two points, one short of the three needed by Suffolk or Norfolk to win the league on the number of games won. Five of Suffolk’s matches and three of Norfolk’s matches went to the 18th green, so the result was hanging in the balance until the final putt was sunk.

Ethan McCleary (Bury St. Edmunds) was Suffolk’s star performer, winning his matches against both counties. Again this was a strong season by Suffolk’s young golfers showing that the future is in a good position. Trevor praised the work of manager Ian Woodhead and the coaching team in the progress and development show.
