U14`s Compete in the regional triangular match

The Suffolk Under 14 team was unable to retain the Triangular Shield in their annual match against Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, held at The Cambridge Country Club on Sunday.

The morning 9-hole foursomes matchplay finished with the scores quite close – Norfolk 5 1/2 points: Suffolk 3 1/2 points: Cambridgeshire 3 points.

18 holes singles match play looked to be very close at the halfway point, but Norfolk forged ahead on the back nine to win the singles, making the final overall scores a convincing victory. Norfolk 15 1/2: Cambridgeshire 11: Suffolk 9 1/2.

The outstanding Suffolk pair in the foursomes were Ethan McCleary and Hugh Oliver (both Bury St Edmunds) who won both their matches and in the singles, Finley Edwards (Stowmarket) also scored two points for the team. In his singles matches, Ethan and his opponents played some exceptionally good golf, with all three players racking up several birdies. In close games Ethan beat his Norfolk opponent 1 up and lost to his Cambridgeshire opponent by the same score.

Well done to the team members, all players served their county in an excellent manner!
