Tyler Weaver successful in Faldo series

While Suffolk Golf Union’s events have fallen victim to Covid-19 some of their most promising teenagers have been taking advantage of the Faldo Series events to keep them in competitive mode.

Tyler Weaver (Bury St Edmunds) was one of the stars of the Midlands Boys’ event at Kedleston Park in Derbyshire. He won under-16 section with rounds of 76 70 and 71 which put him fourth overall at the event which also had under-21 and under-18 sections. Teddy Hall, also of Bury St Edmunds, who made his mark in the Suffolk men’s second team in the Anglian League last year had 77 75 and 71.  Max Weaver just missed the cut in the under-18 section with 82 and 74.

This week all three are all at the Vale Resort Golf Club in Wales together with George Fricker and Taylor Crisp from Woodbridge and Sid Neenan from Felixstowe Ferry.

Fricker, Crisp and Hall have also entered the South event at Royal Ashdown Forest starting on August 18.

The Weaver boys and Hall are going to St Annes Old Links to compete in the North event starting on August 24. Tyler’s handicap is hovering around scratch, Max is 2.4, Hall 1.8 while Fricker is plus 2.5 and Crisp one.

The big event, though, is the rearranged Carris Trophy which will be played at Broadstone in Dorset between August 25 and 27. Fricker, Crisp. Hall, the Weaver brothers and Sam Jensen from Flempton, who is coached by Lawrence Dodd, have all entered, however there is likely to be a ballot as the event is well over subscribed.
