Suffolk Under 14’s v Norfolk Under 14’s

Suffolk Under 14’s played their first match of the season against Norfolk at Bungay and Waveney Valley Golf Club. The teams played 9 holes foursomes followed by 18 holes singles.

Suffolk took a 3 – 1 lead after the foursomes but Norfolk rallied in the singles to make it a very close game with three matches being decided on the last hole. The result hinged on the final match left on the course between Cameron Bacon, playing in his first county match, and Will Payne. There was never more than a one hole lead for either boy and they reached the 18th tee all square. After two excellent drives, Bacon played a superb shot to the green, finishing four feet from the pin. Payne missed the green to the left and was unable to get up and down, so a comfortable par gave Bacon the win to ensure the match finished level at 6 – 6.
