Suffolk Under 14’s v Norfolk and Cambridgeshire

Suffolk Under 14s played against Norfolk and Cambridgeshire at The Cambridgeshire Country Club at Bourn. They played 9 holes of foursomes and 18 holes of singles.

Unfortunately Patrick Coffey was taken ill overnight meaning that Suffolk were reduced to 7 players, so four matches were conceded. Cambridgeshire fielded a very strong team, featuring two players with a handicap index of 1, whereas the lowest handicap index of the Suffolk Boys was 14.

In the foursomes Cambridgeshire won all their matches against both counties. Suffolk’s Kane Russell with Cameron Bacon and George Whinney with Charlie Langdon won their matches against Norfolk. Suffolk’s other players were Henry Clarke, George Swallow and Sebastian Kubitzek.

In the singles Cambridgeshire again proved too strong for both counties, winning all their matches. Kane Russell halved his match with Norfolk – the only success for the Suffolk boys.

Despite the heavy loss, it was a good experience for the Suffolk boys, playing against better players who play at a standard to which they aspire.

Match result – Cambridgeshire 24, Norfolk 9 1/2, Suffolk 2 1/2.
