SEG Under 16 League (Norfolk and Essex)

SEG Under 16 League (Norfolk and Essex)

The U16’s played their 2nd triangular league match against Norfolk and Essex on Saturday the 3rd of July at Barnham Broom Golf Club in Norfolk. In order to give ourselves a fighting chance of winning the league Suffolk needed a clean sweep.

The Hill Course was in fine condition and the weather stayed fair so there were no excuses. Essex fielded a very strong side again with handicaps ranging from +1 to 2. Unfortunately those impressive Essex handicaps proved too much for us and they had a clean sweep winning every match against Suffolk and 7 out of 8 matches against Norfolk.

Suffolk did beat Norfolk, 7 points to 1, to give ourselves a slim chance of taking top spot in the final league game in a couple of weeks.

Charlie Goodridge and Fraser Johnson both made their U16 debuts and both secured a point each with a win against Norfolk, the highlight being an impressive comeback from Fraser who was a few holes down to Norfolk at the turn.

In only his 2nd start for the county Liam Buggs won a point.

Mackenzie Bacon was not only making his U16 debut at the weekend but also his county debut. After going down early to Norfolk he battled back to win a point on the 17th hole to crown an impressive start to his Suffolk County Golf career.
