Southwold entertained Gorleston in the first quarterfinal. Gorleston shaded the foursomes 2.5 to 1.5 with young Max Elliott, a member of both clubs, enhancing his growing reputation with a full point in company with Andrew Higgins. The afternoons singles saw Southwold introduce both reserves. Reuben Harvey was one reserve and he won his point and was -5 when he completed his match on the 14th hole. With 5 of the first 6 games going to Southwold the 6.5 mark was reached for a strong win. Southwold are pictured on the 18th green after the win.
At Diss there was another really tight match with Rushmere. Diss were leading 3 – 1 after the foursomes. The singles saw the gap gradually close however wins for Tony Osborn, Archie Moore and Chris Bartrum and an outstanding half from reserve Charlie Tunstall saw Diss over the line with a score line of 6.5 – 5.5.
Holders Felixstowe Ferry faced Ipswich. There were some strong players in both line ups however Felixstowe Ferry ran out winners by 9 -3. It was the same score line in the other match between Woodbridge and Stowmarket. At lunch Woodbridge has nudged ahead by 2.5 – 1.5 however in the singles Woodbridge were very strong to complete the win for a place in the next round.
