Skevington trophy at The Millbrook

The annual renewal of this match between Bedfordshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk under 16s took place on Monday 21st July hosted by The Millbrook, who had only just recovered from hosting the County Qualifier the previous weekend. Suffolk travelled to the venue buoyed by the return of Captain Charlie Longdon (after a long term injury) and welcomed debutant William Cobbald to the team.

On a day when the weather was most trying the result was formulated on the 9 holes played in the morning and the first 9 in the afternoon. With 4 groups left on the course the dark, threatening skies let fly with lightning and thunder causing events to be suspended. After a lot of noise and flashing it rain poured and poured rendering us unable to complete the round.

Congratulation to Essex on winning the trophy and Jake Gunby (Norfolk) who shaded the gross prize on countback. Norfolk also took the nett prize but regrettably I cannot recall his name.

Results were: 1: Essex – 469 2: Norfolk – 471 3: Bedfordshire – 479 4: Suffolk – 498
