SEG Under 16 League (Norfolk and Essex)

SEG Under 16 League (Norfolk and Essex)

On Sunday the 8th of August the U16 squad played their last league match of the year at Diss Golf Club. We entered the match sitting 2nd in the league meaning that we needed a big win against both Essex and Norfolk and then for Norfolk to beat Essex in order for us to progress to the final.

The game was played in tough conditions with 30mph winds lasting all day interspersed with some very heavy rainfall. The course was in fantastic condition with perfect greens and high rough so it was going to be a challenging day to score. This was highlighted by the first hole where out of all 3 teams of 8 we had to wait to the very last two players before any of them managed to hit the green on the opening par 3! Mackenzie Bacon being the only Suffolk player to hit the green.

Overall we started strongly but then faded away as the rounds progressed. In a tight match the hast hole was not a friend with several of the games going to the wire but none of them going Suffolk’s way. Essex proved too strong for us once more and came out victors beating both Suffolk and Norfolk. Suffolk halved with Norfolk and finished 2nd in the league overall. Essex will go on to represent the SEG U16 league East division in the regional final next month.

Will Woods made his Suffolk County Junior Golf debut and put in a very solid performance and won his match comfortably against Norfolk. Considering it was his debut he looked calm and poised throughout the day.
