SEG Under 16 League (Norfolk and Essex)

On the 17th of August Suffolk U16’s played Norfolk and Essex in the final league match of the year. Suffolk were on home soil playing at Newton Green. In order to progress through to the regional final Suffolk had to not only beat Essex and Norfolk but also hope that Norfolk beat Essex. If that happened it would all come down to match points.

Essex fielded their strongest side of the year with all of their boys being category 1 golfers – clearly they were worried that Suffolk could pull a win out of the bag. Newton Green was in excellent condition with the greens running a pacey 9.5 on the stimp.

Essex’s got off to a flying start with their top order playing really well and a few early wins managed to settle any nerves. Suffolk’s middle order responded well and at the turn were in good positions. Unfortunately Suffolk failed to capitalize and the promise faded away as the round went on.

Essex were by far the stronger team on the day and came out victors beating both Suffolk and Norfolk and securing their place in the regional final to be played at the end of September.

The scores are as follows: Essex beat Suffolk 7 to 1, Essex beat Norfolk 8 to 0 ,Suffolk beat Norfolk 7 to 1

Man of the match for Suffolk was Sid Neenan who secured 2 points and was the only player to register a win against Essex. Thanks goes to Colin Firmin for acting as starter for the day.
