SEG Junior Foursomes

On Tuesday the 17th of August the U18’s traveled to Essendon Country Club to play in the South East Region Junior Foursomes. This is a flagship 36 hole scratch foursomes event with five counties battling it out for the much coveted trophy.

Essendon Country Club was a fine choice for such a big event, a sprawling country club hosting 2 championship courses with great practice facilities (indulging a “topgolf” range) a pitch and putt course not to mention a very grand club house. The tournament was played on the “New” course which was in great condition with deceptively fast sloping greens. The fairways were tight in places with thick rough giving it a very “US PGA TP” course feel. Off the tips this course could certainly host televised events.

Suffolk fielded a good side and after a very strong showing in the preceding days practice round confidence was high to bring home some silverware in the last U18 game of the season. Unfortunately the confidence waned quickly on game day and we did not live up to our potential. Several pairings played very well for a stretch of holes but failed to put together a decent 18 hole round. They either started well and fell away or started poorly and finished strong which highlighted our inexperience in playing foursomes.

The lowest Suffolk pair in the morning were Callum Hughes and Dominic Rudd who finished tied 6th in the morning. However a poor afternoons play saw them drop down the field overall.

The lowest Suffolk pair was Sid Neenan and Reuben Harvey who finished birdie birdie par to close out the afternoon round and finished 6th overall on the day  – this is certainly a pairing to watch out for in the future.

Suffolk finished a very disappointing last with Essex taking the trophy and winning the right to go on to represent the South East Group in the regional finals.

The Suffolk team: Callum Hughes, Sid Neenan, Jack Rust, Callum Pearce, Harry Brinded, Dominic Rudd, Harry Tibble. and, Reuben Harvey
