SCRATCH TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

Scratch Team Champions – Aldeburgh

Saturday 25th May saw Suffolk host its second Championship of the season, the Scratch Team Championship, this year held at Stowmarket Golf Club. We watched in anticipation as the eventual winners go on to represent Suffolk in the national event. Grey skies, heavy drizzle and juicy rough faced our competitors on the front 9 so scoring was tricky. By the time most players were through the turn though, the sun was out, the sky went blue and Stowmarket looked quite magnificent.

In the end scoring was tight, three teams tied at the top with +14 and only count back could separate them. Ipswich ended up taking third spot but will rue two players three putting the last. None the less, a great effort from James Tyler, Marc Duszynski and Gavin Richards. The runners up, unlucky on count back was Diss Golf Club consisting of Chris Bartrum, Josh Driver and Lewis Whiting, a very credible effort indeed. The winners though, Aldeburgh Golf Club. Will Wright and Josh Robertson still hot from the previous weekend and county legend Paul Buckle with plenty of Stowmarket knowledge, got the job done. They will represent Suffolk on the big stage and we wish them all the best, watch this space to see how they get on.

Individual Winner – Chris Bartrum

There is an individual prize to play for here too. Again, we needed count back to separate three players. Shooting 73 and coming third was Thomas Broadley-Naylor from Rookery Park. Second place was Josh Robertson from Aldeburgh. Taking this years individual prize was Chris Bartrum of Diss Golf Club, well played Chris.
