Sam Debenham wins Suffolk Open Championship

The Suffolk Open Championship took place at Fynn Valley Golf Club on Sunday 11th August. 37 players took part including 9 professionals.

James Biggs (Diss),Sam Debenham (Hintlesham) and Russell Oakey (Newton Green) shared the lead after the morning round, all carding 2 over par 71’s with Simon Bearman (Hintlesham) James Tyler (Ipswich) and Reegan Marshall (Fynn Valley) a shot behind after returning 72’s.

Biggs could only manage a 77 in his afternoon round and Oakey a 76. Marshall shot 73 for a total of 145 and 3rd place with Chris Vince (Haverhill) adding an afternoon 71 to his morning 74 for 145 and 2nd place on count back.

Debenham added a superb 3 under par round of 68 in the afternoon for a 1 under total of 139 which saw him claim the Suffolk Open title by 6 shots.

Marshall, a 5 handicapper from the home club, recorded the lowest nett score with 135 from Bearman on 140 and Debenham 143.

Debenham is pictured receiving the Faraday Cup (Suffolk Open Championship Trophy) from County President- Bill Darling. He also received the Easterbrook Trophy which is awarded to the leading amateur.
