ROOKERY PARK VICTORIOUS IN THE HAMBRO CUP

On a thankfully cooler day that of late the final of the Hambro Cup was played at last years winners Bungay and Waveney Valley between the two form sides in this competition this year Thorpeness and Rookery Park.

After a tense opening the match was close at lunch with Rookery Park holding a 4 hole advantage. By the turn in the afternoon the calculators were out and it was desperately close. However Rookery Park got it together in the final holes and ran out winners by 6 in the afternoon for a 10 – 0 victory.

The presentations were held in the clubhouse a short while later under the guidance of SGU President Charlie Wilderspin. Thorpeness captain James Tilbrook thanked his team for a fine year and everyone was saddened to hear of the serious illness to one of his players before going on to congratulate Rookery Park on the a deserved victory. SGU wishes Sam all the best in the coming days.

Rookery Park captain Ian Howlett accepted the cup from President Charlie and said that this win had been a long while coming as their previous victory had been in 1977 and there had been a number of disappointments over the years in semi-finals and with that the celebrations began.
