Only the second team taste success in early July

It has been a busy period for the various teams in Suffolk with a limited amount of success.

The seniors played at Gog Magog in the Southern Area foursomes and despite some late calls off, some very hot weather and 36 holes in one day just missed out on qualifying to a strong Norfolk side. Well done to Graham and team for a top effort.

A couple of days later the Junior 6 man team headed off to Clandon Regis in Surrey. They are pictured above following the event. After some good golf by some players with the course record going and being equalled in one day it was congratulation to Hertfordshire who qualified for the EG County finals later in the year with a fantastic score of -15. They will join Cambridgeshire who qualified from the midland group. Suffolk were not in contention this year and finished a disappointing 11th.

The next round of Anglian League fixtures were played on Sunday with Cambridgeshire the opponents. The first team was at home at Hintlesham. With the score 3 – 1 to the away side after the foursomes it was a mountain to climb in the afternoon. Despite this we competed and were unlucky to go down in the singles as well meaning a victory to Cambs by 4.5 – 7.5. A special mention to Reuben Harvey who won 2 points on the day after a great win against former Suffolk player Teddy Hall. Click on RESULT to see the full details

Meanwhile the second team were at St Ives. It was much wetter there so well done to both teams getting the match completed. Captain Martin Youngs reported a 3 -1 lead after the foursomes. Suffolk went on to win 6 points in the afternoon singles for a sound 9 – 3 win. Click on RESULT to see the full details
