MENS 6-MAN QUALIFIERS 2024

MENS 6-MAN QUALIFIERS 2024

Saturday 13th June, the day of the Mens County Qualifiers. Suffolk compete with 11 teams from the south east of England. It’s a very strong field which includes big golf counties like Surrey, Kent and Essex so it’s a great challenge for a county the size of Suffolk. Josh Robertson, Reuben Harvey, Max Weaver, Taylor Crisp, Ben Sayers and Sam Renville were the 6 players sent to compete.

The Dyke Golf Club in Surrey, was the venue for this years event and a fine host they were too. The Golf course presented a challenge that was interesting but fair and the high points boasted views that would rival almost anywhere.

The morning was dominated by BB&O, a team comprised of three counties, and that saw them into a commanding lead. Suffolk sat in 7th position. Considering our size and the fact our internationals were missing that felt a pretty good morning. To make matters better, Reuben Harvey (-5) was only one off the individual lead. Max Weaver was also in the mix at -4.

In the afternoon, the wind got up and scoring was to be a lot harder. Reuben managed to card -2 which was extremely respectable and meant he personally had an excellent second place finish. The rest of the team also remained solid, Ben Sayers shot -1 to mean he had back to back under par scores and all this helped Suffolk climb the table into 5th place. Essex had a wonderful afternoon and managed to topple BB&O and now represent the south east in the nationals. For Suffolk though, 5th place was a superb finish and something to build on.
