Goldsmith is Suffolk Seniors Champion

The Suffolk Seniors Championship was held at Ufford Park Golf Club on Tuesday 21st June. It attracted a field of 42 players.

Simon Goldsmith  (Rookery Park) 1 handicap returned a superb 2 under par 69 to take the title and win the Geoffrey Barnard Bowl by 6 shots from John Newsome (Woodbridge) who carded 75 and 8 shots clear of Stephen Duffety (Flempton) who was 3rd on count back from, Roger Taylor (Aldeburgh) 4th and Sean Sidney (Ipswich) 5th who all returned 77’s.

Simon will now have the opportunity to represent Suffolk at the Seniors Champion of Champions Tournament which is to be held at Woodhall Spa Golf Club over the weekend of 10/11th September.

The Michael Thomas Trophy , total gross scores from 3 players, went to the Woodbridge trio of John Newsome 75,Steve Mann 78 and Gary Seaman 80 with a total of 233. Ipswich , Sean Sidney 77, Robert Turner 82 and John Whitby 81 were in second place on 240.

Age Group prizes went to 55-60 winner Dave Bloom (Felixstowe Ferry) 80 nett 71, Runner Up Trevor Hellyer (Hintlesham) 78-73. 62-69 Winner John Fulcher (Ufford Park) 81-71, Runner Up David Hughes (Woodbridge) 82-73. 70+ Winner David Kelly (Rookery Park) 90-78 Runner Up Graham Smith (Bury St Edmunds) 88-79
