England Golf Senior Men County Qualifying
Suffolk Seniors were attempting to qualify for the England Golf Senior Men County Finals, which is to be held at Grange Park Golf Club 5-7th October, at Kingswood Golf Club 13-14 July. They were competing against 10 other South East Counties. The format is a team of 6 players with the 5 best scores to count both morning and afternoon.
After the morning round Suffolk were placed 7th on 388 with Simon Bearman 77, Steve Crosby 79, John Newsome 78, James O’Doherty 75 and Roger Taylor 79.
Sussex led the way on 367.
In the afternoon Suffolk returned 383 with Bearman 74, Newsome 78, O’Doherty 76, Taylor 81 and Simon Goldsmith 74. This was good enough to move them into a creditable 5th place on a total of 771.
Sussex finished with a total of 735 and will represent the South East at the national finals.
