BITTER SWEET FOR SUFFOLK MEN

BITTER SWEET FOR SUFFOLK MEN

Sunday 2nd June was the second round of Anglian league fixtures which saw Suffolk first team travel to Ely City Golf Club, whilst the second team hosted at Diss.

Suffolk 2nd Team

Very disappointingly and through no fault of their own, the first team were unable to have a practice round for their match meaning their work was more than cut out. Despite the set back, Suffolk rallied well and managed their way around the quirkiness and centre fairway GUR that adorned most holes on this Cambridgeshire parkland. In fact, Suffolk had the mid way lead 2.5 – 1.5. Good wins for partnerships Ben Aves and Sam Renville plus Reuben Harvey and Ben Sayers. Jack Cardy and Will Wright also chipped in with half a point.

Meanwhile in Diss, the teams couldn’t be separated. Josh Robertson and Taylor Crisp had gone out first and managed a strong win whilst Jimmy price and Adam Sheldrake had also taken care of their business. Unfortunately for Suffolk, two of the Cambridgeshire pairs had clearly used their practice round well and at lunch time the score was 2-2.

For the first team, the afternoon didn’t unfold as they’d wished. Will Wright and Ben Sayers won well but after that only one more half point came from Russel Oakey. Three matches went down the 18th hole and it would be fair to think if the players had seen the course prior to the match, the result could have been quite different.

Over to the second team to improve the mood in Suffolk. They’d need 4.5 from a possible 8 points and when Josh Robertson again leading from the front won 3&2 the tone was set. Chris Bartrum, Adam Sheldrake and Jimmy price got their points before Dan Hedges sealed the deal on the 18th green, well Played Suffolk second team.
