Bury St Edmunds set a beautiful scene for the 2025 Suffolk Junior Championship. 60 competitors made up the field which was broken into 3 categories. The 12+ handicappers would play an 18 hole Stableford. As before, in collaboration with the Suffolk Ladies Golf Association, the girls would play a 36 hole stroke play event and the 12 and under handicapped boys would compete for the Mckenzie Cup playing 36 holes of stroke play.
27 young golfers took part in the Stableford competition with 8 of them shooting a score better than their handicap. Alex Turner from Bungay secured second place on count back with 40 points over Alfie Pruden and Edward Cobbold. Nobody however, could match Jack Johnson’s great score. The Bramford GC member achieved 42 points to take the first prize.
5 players competed in the girls championship Josie Knights and Jasmine Points could only be separated by a shot at the half way point but Jasmine took control in the afternoon shooting 76 and winning by 5 shots. The Nett prize went to Imogen Potter with solid scores of 76 & 73. Well played to all the girls, it is a pleasure for us to share our championship day with them.
In the boys stroke play competition Patrick Coffey from Woodbridge set out his stool early shooting 76 and taking an early lead. Soon after Jacob Severn matched his score followed by a group just one shot back which included William Cobbold, Kane Russell and Lucas Bond. The chasing pack fell away slightly in the afternoon, as did co-leader Jacob. Bailee Taylor, playing with Patrick, climbed up the leaderboard but not quite enough to catch Patrick who won his second Junior Championship in 3 years shooting 76 & 77.
