SEG Under 18 League match ( Norfolk and Beds)

On Sunday the 25th of July the U18s traveled to Dunstable Downs Golf Course to play against Bedfordshire and Norfolk in the final match of the U18 league. This was an huge game for Suffolk with us needing a big win against both Bedfordshire and Norfolk as well as requiring Norfolk to beat Bedfordshire for us to qualify for the regional finals.

The course was in fantastic condition with some amazing views. Very small and challenging greens and a very good variety of holes made it a good all round test of golf. This was one of the most hilly courses I have ever seen and so fitness and managing energy levels would play deciding factors in the outcome.

Suffolk fielded a young squad with 5 players making their U18 debut. All five debutantes put in brilliant performances and handled the pressure extremely well which is great news for the future of Suffolk Junior Golf. But alas, despite some strong performances from Suffolk the mountain we had left ourselves to climb, both figuratively and literally, was too much and Bedfordshire ran out winners on the day beating both Suffolk and Norfolk 7 points to 1. Suffolk drew with Norfolk which leaves us 2nd in the league overall.

A big mention to Kane Russell and Sebastian Kubitzek who played really well and impressed throughout the day. But stand out performance goes to young George Swallow playing in his first Suffolk U18 match. He won a point against Norfolk and was all square against Bedfordshire going into the last but unfortunately narrowly missed out on clinching 2 points, certainly one to watch for the future.

Callum Hughes put in yet another strong performance and was the only Suffolk player to win 2 points. This is turning into a great season for Callum as he continues to rack up the points for the U18s

Good luck to Bedfordshire who progress through to the regional final which will be played at Halesworth Golf Club on the 19th of September.
