The Amateur Championship

The Amateur Championship

The Amateur Championship was held at Royal Birkdale Golf Club  25th to 30th August. 240 competitors took part with the top 64, after 36 holes of stroke play, progressing to the Match play stage of the competition. Three Suffolk players were in the field, James Biggs (Diss), Monty Scowsill (Woodbridge) and Habebul Islam (Ipswich)

Unfortunately play on day 1 was abandoned due to heavy rain as a result of which the cut, which fell at 5 over par, took place after 18 holes.

All 3 Suffolk players made it through to the Matchplay stage where James Biggs was beaten 5 & 3 by Arron Edwards-Hill and Monty Scowsill went down 2 & 1 to Loris Schuepbach.

Habebul Islam had an extremely good win in his Round 2 match defeating Christoffer Bring, who recently lost the Brabazon Trophy in a play off, 4 & 3 he followed that up with a 3 & 2 win over Fillippo Celli before going down by 5 & 4 to Joe Harvey from The Kendleshire.
