Alfie Halil is best of Suffolk’s entrants at the English Amateur Championship

The English Amateur Championship was held at Woodhall Spa Golf Club between the 28th July and 2nd August.

Suffolk had four players attempting to qualify for the Match play stage of the competition. Alfie Halil (Flempton) was the only success after carding rounds of 74 and 73 for a 2 over par total of 147 and 37th place.Unfortunately he was defeated by Jake Bolton (Ogbourne Downs) 4 & 3 in the 1st round of the Matchplay.

Monty Scowsill (Aldeburgh) and James Biggs (Diss)  shot 79-73 and 78-74 for 7 over par totals of 152 tied 101st whilst Habebul Islam (Ipswich) shot 80-82 for a 17 over par total of 162- tied 197th.

The top qualifier was Joe Long (Lansdown) with 70-66 for a 9 under par total of 136.

The title went to Jack Cope (Players Club) who defeated Callan Barrow (Royal Ltham & St Annes) 4 & 3 in the final.
