Skevington and Bagshaw Trophies

Skevington and Bagshaw Trophies

On Monday the 29th of July Suffolk County Golf U16’s hosted the Skevington Trophy at Felxistowe Ferry Golf Club. The match was played against Norfolk, Essex and Bedfordshire. The format was stroke play and was played over 27 holes utilizing both the Kingsfleet and the Martello Course making it a very special tournament. With the best three gross score been added to the best 3 nett scores its always a wide open competition with any of the four counties having a chance to win the trophy.

The course was setup really well but thanks to a strong wind playing conditions were very difficult and this was reflected in the scoring. Many good rounds were ruined by one errant tee shot riding on the wind never to be seen again.

The Skevington Trophy is awarded to the lowest individual score on the day. This years winner was William Horne of Essex who carded a very impressive 2 over gross for the 27 holes. In parallel the teams battle it out for the Bob Bagshaw Trophy with Suffolk being the defending champions. Unfortunately Suffolk were not able to retain the trophy and Norfolk came out top thanks to some good nett scores.

Dominc Rudd continues to show very good form and had the best score for Suffolk (3rd lowest overall) shooting 4 over gross for 27 holes. His afternoon round of 74 was the 2nd lowest of the day.

The overall team points are as follows: Norfolk-  667, Essex – 672, Suffolk- 681, Bedfordshire- 693
