English Men’s Amateur Championship

The English Men’s Amateur Championship was played at Hankley Common and North Hants Golf Clubs 30 July to 4 August. The format is 36 holes stroke play, 18 on each course, with the top 64 and ties from 288 competitors progressing to match play.

5 Suffolk players were in the starting line up. Max Adams (Bury St Edmunds) withdrew, owing to a family bereavement, with his club colleague, Michael Gee, retiring during his opening round. James Reiss (Aldeburgh) shot 76-81 for 157, Habebul Islam (Ipswich) 79-70-149 and James Biggs (Diss) 74-72-146. With the cut falling at 144 all failed to reach the Match play stage.

The leading qualifier was Jake Bolton (Ogbourne Downs) who carded 68-67 for a 6 under par total of 135
