Suffolk have 4 more Level 2 qualified referees

Suffolk has four more referees who are qualified to officiate at county events.

England Golf recently ran a national online Level 2 Rules School for people who had previously passed the Level 1 examination. The participants watched three online presentations by England Golf officials over three weeks and after each one the Suffolk and Norfolk students had an online meeting with Level 3 Suffolk referees, Mike Rees and Trevor Mason, who were able to answer any questions and clarify any points from the presentations.

This was followed by an online examination on the Rules of Golf.

Three members of Suffolk clubs passed the examination with ‘merit’ to give them a Level 2 qualification and, therefore, ‘county referee’ status. Terry Aston (Thorpeness), Jeff Deslandes (Felixstowe Ferry) and Nick Humphry (Southwold) will be invited by Suffolk Golf Union to officiate at Suffolk tournaments.

In addition Tony Bell, who already held a Level 2 qualification, has recently moved to Woodbridge Golf Club from Essex and will also be invited to officiate in Suffolk.

Suffolk’s senior referee, Mike Rees said, ” We were unable to run a Rules School locally because of the pandemic, so for England Golf to organise an online course was an excellent substitute. There were previously only four referees in Suffolk and I am very pleased that we now have four more which will enable us to share the workload and also to have Rules officials at more county events. Congratulations to those who have now qualified”.
