South East Group 6-Man Qualifiers

The 6 man team event is one of the flagship events of every county’s season. Like most years the event clashed with the European Teams Championship which meant some of the full time players were unavailable. Despite that unavailability Suffolk took a team to The Millbrook Golf Club in Bedfordshire ready to hold their own.

The blistering heat meant it was going to be a marathon and not a sprint around the fiddly parkland.  The morning didn’t belong to Suffolk. A combination of slow starts, bad luck and nerves saw us sitting bottom of the 11 team table at the half way point. The captain’s orders at lunch time were clear, don’t finish in this position!

The players listened and the afternoon was vastly improved. Reuben Harvey was Suffolk’s lowest scorer with +7 for the day. Taylor Crisp shot a Suffolk low score of the day with an excellent -1 (71). Junior, Patrick Coffey, looked perfectly comfortable making his debut for the mens team with an afternoon 75. Harry Brinded’s afternoon was strong with a 73. Sam Renville also had two counting scores whilst Jimmy Price put a tough morning behind him to card a score 11 shots better.

Suffolk’s afternoon fight back meant they lifted themselves off the bottom to finish in 9th place. Considering Suffolk were missing 3 full time players and got off to a tough start, the 6 players can walk away with pride after a good battle in the afternoon heat.
