SKEVINGTON TROPHY

SKEVINGTON TROPHY

Without going into detail this years renewal of this match was limited to 18 holes only with 8 players a side. What makes this so unique is the scoring system which sees the best three gross scores added to the best 3 nett scores to determine the result.

Eaton was lush and green as the boys teed off at midday with a gusty wind but thankfully dry. It quickly became evident that the strong Essex squad meant business as we battled the other other 2 counties for the minor places. A long afternoon was crowned by finding out that Rufus Thubron had returned a great +8 score.

The award for this trip goes to Stefan who overcame being stuck in the car park at UEA with the coach. The road being blocked on the way to dinner and getting in and out of the golf club on the day of the match. Thanks to Felixstowe Travel.

After a pie and mash supper the results were announced. Charlie Rushbridge won the gross prize (Bagshaw salver) with a 67 (-3). Well played Charlie. The winner of the nett prize was Rufus with a net 65. And so to the trophy itself, Essex were worthy winners with 435 stokes. Norfolk were runners up with 446 beating Bedfordshire by one shot (447) and Sufolk by 3 shots (449). There were many stories of what might have been.
