Seniors march on

Suffolk seniors entertained their friends from Cambridgeshire on Monday at Stowmarket. After 2 straight wins could the run be continued using home advantage.

The morning foursomes saw wins for John Blackmore / Pete Brady and Steven Duffety / Graham Sykes and a half point from James O’Doherty / Peter Brady and Andy Grogan / Angus Rust. Advantage Suffolk at lunch by 3 – 2.

The singles in afternoon saw Steven Duffety forced to concede his match due to injury. The top of the order won their matches so well done to ODoherty, Blackmore, Grogan and Sykes. After a couple of losses wins for Revell and Roger Nicholson meant a 9 – 6 win for Suffolk.

Captain Graham Sykes said that the course was in amazing condition and we were looked after so well by the hosting club so many thanks goes out to them. We had a steady start in the morning against strong opposition leaving work to be done in the afternoon. Losing Stephen Duffety to a back injury early in the afternoon put Cambs back on a level playing field. There were some gutsy performances out there from the rest of the squad which bought us an amazing victory in tough circumstances, really proud of the guys. It is great looking at the league table so all positive.

Suffolk have one game left at Sleaford against Lincolnshire which may be a league decider on the 28th August.
