Scowsill and Tait at The Amateur Championship

Two Suffolk players, Monty Scowsill (Woodbridge) and Gregor Tait (Aldeburgh) took part in The Amateur Championship held at St Annes Old Links and Royal Lytham & St Annes 13-18th June.

Gregor Tait had to pre-qualify which he did in style shooting a 5 under par 67 to finish top of the qualifiers. Unfortunately he was unable to maintain that level of play carding 74-77 for a 9 over par total of 151 and failing to make the match play stage of the competition.

Monty Scowsill, by virtue of finishing runner up in last year’s event did not have to pre- qualify. However it looked doubtful that he would reach the match play stage of the competition after opening with a 5 over par 75. He added a superb 5 under par 67 to finish on 142, level par, and qualify tied in 40th place.

Unfortunately he was knocked out in the second round  6 & 4 by Aldrich Potgieter of South Africa.
