Order of Merit Finals (Race to Aldeburgh)

30 players who have qualified through the County Championships and Order of Merit handicap competitions played during the season, together with the 8 players who returned the lowest nett scores from the SGU sponsored medals held at the various clubs in the County, took part in the

seasons finale held at Aldeburgh Golf Club on Sunday 23rd October.

The Scratch and Handicap qualifiers took part in a medal competition which was won by home member, Will Wright, who returned a 72 beating Harry Brinded also Adeburgh by 1 shot.

Wright’s win  also saw him take the Suffolk Scratch Order of Merit  (Dick Berendt Salver) finishing on 435 points from Russell Oakey (Bury St Edmunds) on 320 and Adrian Meredith (Hintlesham) 280.

The Junior Order of Merit (David Houston Salver) went to Harry Brinded (Aldeburgh) who beat Rueben Harvey (Southwold) on count back by virtue of the 2nd place in the final competition, both finishing on 300 points.

Simon Goldsmith (Rookery Park) took the Seniors Order of Merit with 104 points from Steve Mann (Woodbridge) on 63

Both Goldsmith and Brinded achieved a treble winning their respective Seniors and Junior Stroke and Match play Championships in addition to the Order of Merit titles.

The handicap Order of Merit was won by Dane Whiteley (Gorleston) whose nett 74 in the final competition saw him take the 200 points on offer to leave him on a total of 295, 40 points ahead of runner up Chris Bartrum (Diss)

The final of the SGU Sponsored Medal competition, played on a stableford basis, was won by Mike Penman  (Ipswich) on 33 points from Dylan Morgan  (Aldeburgh) 30
