Gregor Tait is 2021 Suffolk Amateur Champion

The Suffolk Amateur Championship was held at Aldeburgh Golf Club 26/27th June. This is the first year it has been held over 54 holes which would enable it to qualify as a WAGR pointed event. 50 players took part with a cut taking place after 18 holes, played on the Saturday afternoon, the top 34 players and ties progressing to play 36 holes on the Sunday.
The Saturday afternoon saw Gregor Tait (Aldeburgh) equal the course record with a 65. Luke Thompson (Rookery Park carded a 71 and there were 72’s from Max Weaver and Russell Oakey (Bury St Edmunds) The cut fell at 82 with 39 players making it through to day 2.
On the Sunday morning Tait added a 69 which was matched by Will Wright (Aldeburgh) Danny Western (Gorleston shot 70, to go with his opening round of 73, as did Declan Condon (Woodbridge) who opened with a 78. Oakey added a 73 as did Tyler Weaver (Bury St Edmunds) who also had a 73 in his opening round.
Tait carded a 74 in his final round to finish on 208 to become Suffolk Amateur Champion for 2021, ahead of Danny Western (Gorleston) who finished 10 shots adrift on 218. Oakey was 3rd on 223 with Luke Thompson (Rookery Park) and James Tyler (Ipswich) on 224

The team event was won by Aldeburgh (Gregor Tait, Will Wright and James Reiss.) They will now have the opportunity to represent Suffolk at the English Champion Club tournament which is to be held at Knowle Park Golf Club on the weekend of 18/19th September.
Ian Brown (Ipswich) took the handicap prize from James Tyler (Ipswich) Best gross Round 1 went to Luke Thompson with 71, Will Wright Round 2 with 69 and Sid Neenan (Aldeburgh) Round 3 71
This year 4 players qualify to contest the Suffolk Match play Championship (Presidents Mashie) which is to be held at Stowmarket Golf Club on Sunday 19th September. With Gregor Tait returning to University and unavailable the draw is as follows- Danny Western v Luke Thompson – Russell Oakey v James Tyler
