England Golf SEG Junior Foursomes

Suffolk boys put in an excellent performance to finish as runners up to Sussex in the England Golf, South East Group, Junior Foursomes at Old Fold Manor, Hertfordshire. The event is a 36 hole foursomes medal competition with three out of four scores counting from each of the morning and afternoon rounds.

Suffolk were in third place after the first round, four shots behind Sussex and three behind Surrey. George Fricker and Alfie Halil led the way with a four over par 75, equalled by 15 year old Teddy Hall and his 14 year old partner, Tyler Weaver. Jack Butcher and Taylor Crisp had the third score to count, five over par 76, and the final pair of Reegan Marshall and Callum Hitcham had a disappointing 86 which was discounted from the team score of 226. The team felt that a small improvement in their scores in the afternoon would mean that they would be in with a good chance of claiming the trophy, something not previously achieved.

All four pairs did improve their scores in the afternoon. Fricker and Halil beat their first round score by four to record a one under par 70. Hall and Weaver and Butcher and Crisp both improved their scores by one for 74s. Marshall and Hitcham were eight strokes better with a 78, which was again discounted for the team score. Unfortunately the team score of 445 was not quite enough as Sussex also recorded a lower score in the afternoon for a combined score of 440, but the Suffolk score was enough to finish in second place, four ahead of Surrey.

Essex finished 4th and Norfolk were in seventh place of the seven competing counties.

Max Weaver would have represented Suffolk, but was rushed into Addenbrookes Hospital two days before the event suffering from appendicitis. He is now at home recuperating. Reegan Marshall stood in for him at short notice.
