Aldeburgh win inaugural Suffolk Scratch Team Championship

Rookery Park Golf Club was the venue for the inaugural Suffolk Scratch Team Championship on Saturday 21st May. The format was teams of 3 with all scores to count- 17 Suffolk clubs participated.

Aldeburgh Golf Club were the winners with a total of 224 ( 8 over par) by 6 shots from Rookery Park,who finished second by virtue of the final player’s score, Gorleston and Felixstowe Ferry, all three finishing on 230 (14 over par)  Aldeburgh team members scores were Alex Mair 77, Will Wright 74 and Patrick Spraggs 73

Aldeburgh will now have the opportunity of representing Suffolk at the English Champion club tournament which is to be held at Lilley Brook Golf Club, Cheltenham over the weekend of the 17/18th September.

The event was also a qualifier for handicap purposes and there were 3 individual prizes. The winner was Ben Sayers (Felixstowe Ferry) who was the only player to break par with a one under par 71 from Patrick Spraggs (Aldeburgh) who beat Chris Soanes (Rookery Park) on count back, both players returning one over par 73’s.
