Father and Son are Suffolk Amateur Foursomes Champions

The Suffolk Amateur Foursomes Championship was played on Sunday 8th August at Woodbridge Golf Club. 46 pairs took part.

Round 1 saw Ben Aves and Sam Renville (Bury St Edmunds) leading jointly with George Fricker (Woodbridge) and Andres Acevedo (Hintlesham) both returning one over par 71’s. Sam Debenham and Jason Finch (Hintlesham & Woodbridge) were a shot behind on 72 with Toby Ayles and Tom Fowler (Woodbridge) on 73

Round 2 saw Aves and Renville add a 76 and Debenham and Finch 75 finishing on 147 as did Fricker and Acevedo who returned 76

Graham Tait playing with his son Gregor returned a 70 leaving them on 146 which was matched by Ayles and Fowler who added a 2nd 73. The Tait’s winning the Championship and McCleod Cup in a play off at the 2nd extra hole. Ayles and Fowler receive the Watts Salvers. Debenham and Finch took 3rd place on count back.

The all day handicap prize went to Stephen Mayhew and Alan Scovell (Woodbridge) with a nett 140 whilst the leading seniors prize was won by Simon Bearman and Paul Buckle on 153 after rounds of 81 and 72. The morning gross went to Andres Acevedo and George Fricker with 71 on count back from Aves and Renville with the afternoon gross going to John Blackmore and Mel Pipe (Felixstowe Ferry) with 72.
