Level 1 Rules School

Suffolk Golf Union has hosted an R&A Level 1 Rules Seminar at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club which was attended by twenty-one people, nine of whom were ladies, representing eight different Suffolk clubs: Felixstowe Ferry, Gorleston, Hintlesham, Newton Green, Southwold, Thorpeness, Ufford Park and Woodbridge.

County referees, Mike Rees and Trevor Mason, facilitated the seminar, giving an indoor, on-screen, R&A presentation followed by a practical demonstration on the practice ground. The day concluded with a one hour examination which will be marked by the R&A and the results sent to the participants.

With only four qualified Rules Officials in Suffolk, this was the first step in recruiting more referees. It is hoped that several of those that are successful in the Level 1 examination will progress to attend an R&A Level 2 seminar, after which successful candidates will achieve county referee status.
