Suffolk Junior Championship

The Mackenzie Cup

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT

The Suffolk Junior Championship is a 36-hole singles event. It is a joint event, held with the Suffolk Girls Championship, which any junior player who is a member of a club affiliated to the Suffolk Golf Union can enter. The county champions will be the boy and girl with the lowest scratch scores.

Entrants with a handicap index of 12.4 or less will be entered into their respective 36 hole stroke play championship. The remaining entrants will play an 18 hole stableford competition. The maximum handicap index allowed to enter will be 36.4 and a handicap ballot will be held if entry is over subscribed.

The playing groups will normally be in 3 balls, in handicap order, with members of each group playing in the same competition. There will be separate scratch and handicap prizes in the boys and girls competitions, which will be scored individually.

This is a qualifying event for the boys Junior Order of Merit. The top 4 boys qualify for the Suffolk Junior Matchplay Championship which will be held on Suffolk Matchplay Finals day, normally a Sunday in September. In the event that any qualifiers are unable to participate, their place will be offered to the next highest finisher. Should a Junior qualify for both the Presidents Mashie and the Junior Matchplay semi-finals the Presidents Mashie will take precedence.

The 2025 Championship was played at Bury St Edmunds Golf Club, on Friday 30th May 2025.
